
How to Tie a Four-in-hand Knot
Originating from England, the four-in-hand knot is most popular way to tie a necktie with over 80% of people believed to use this method. Its popularity is largely due to its simplicity and therefore being easy to learn how to do. Suitable for most occasions, it best suited when wearing a narrow or normal collar shirt.
1) Start by putting your necktie around your collar with the wide end on your right and then extend it about a foot below the narrow end.
2) Continue by crossing the wide end over the narrow end and back underneath.
3) Once you have done this, bring the wide end over in front of the narrow end again.
4) Then lift the wide end up and through the back of the loop.
5) While holding the front of the knot loose with your index finger, pass the wide end down through the loop.
6) Remove your finger and tighten the knot. Then slide to knot to your collar while keeping a hold of the narrow end.
